Trevor Clayton – NCPGA Associate Player of the Year
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Trevor Clayton (Riverside Golf Course) for earning the 2025 Assistant/Associate Player of the Year honor from the Northern California PGA (NCPGA). According to the Section’s official 2025 Awards listing,
Trevor adds this accolade to an already strong competitive pedigree:

At Fresno State University, he posted a 72.53 scoring average in the 2016-17 season, led his team with several statistical categories including eagles, par-5 average, and lowest bogey per round rate.

He captured the 2016 Mountain West Men’s Golf Individual Championship while at Fresno State, earning All-Mountain West honors.

Prior to Fresno State, while at California State University, Stanislaus he won the 2014 CCAA Individual Championship and fired a round of 62 during that time.

After his collegiate career, Trevor transitioned into golf instruction and the club professional world— as a PGA Associate Professional and instructor in the San Joaquin Chapter.
Michael Paul – NCPGA Super Senior Player of the Year
We are delighted to announce that Michael Paul of Reno, Nevada, has earned the distinction of the 2025 NCPGA Super Senior Player of the Year. This award recognizes his outstanding performance throughout the Super Senior division during the 2025 season and celebrates his commitment to excellence both on and off the golf course.
Michael’s consistency and competitive spirit were the cornerstone of his season. The Super Senior Player of the Year honor is awarded based on results across NCPGA-sanctioned events in the Super Senior category, and Michael’s play rose to that standard. The Super Senior category also represents those professionals who continue to compete at a high level in the later stages of their playing careers.
This recognition highlights Michael’s dedication to his craft—balancing teaching/coaching responsibilities with competitive play, maintaining his game through a full work schedule, and performing well when it counts. His performance has set a benchmark for his peers in the Super Senior division and serves as an inspiration to younger professionals.
Pat Hurst – Women’s NCPGA Player of the Year
Veteran professional and regional stalwart Pat Hurst has been honored as the 2025 Women’s Division Player of the Year by the Northern California PGA, recognizing a season of sustained excellence in tournament play across the region. Pat Hurst is a decorated name in women’s professional golf. A six-time winner on the LPGA Tour including a major championship (1998 Nabisco Dinah Shore) and the 1995 Rookie of the Year award, she has long been recognized for her competitive smarts and consistency. She finished 2nd in the 2006 US Women’s Open and 5th in the Women’s PGA Championship that same year. Hurst also represented Team USA in the Solheim Cup five times and was the Captain for the 2021 team. Prior to the LPGA Tour, she was crowned the 1990 U.S. Amateur champion and won the 1989 Honda Award as the nation’s best female collegiate golfer after taking home team and individual titles for San Jose State. Her ties to Northern California are strong — from her San Leandro roots, to playing collegiate golf for San Jose State, and her deep involvement in the region’s golf community.
2025 Season Highlights

Throughout the 2025 NCPGA Women’s Series events, Hurst posted top finishes and demonstrated her experienced game in a variety of conditions and venues.

At the NCPGA Women’s Pro Series #4, she carded a 68 (-4) to take first place, showcasing her ability to grind and execute under pressure.

Her performance across the season reflected not just isolated wins, but consistent competitiveness, which is a key metric for the Player of the Year award.
With the award now in hand, Hurst’s 2026 campaign will be one to watch.
Chelso Barrett – NCPGA Player of the Year
Chelso Barrett (Cordevalle Golf Club) has captured the prestigious title of 2025 Northern California PGA Player of the Year, capping off an exceptional season marked by consistent excellence and standout performances.
Barrett displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the 2025 season, earning top finishes across multiple NCPGA events. His dedication to his game, combined with a competitive spirit, set him apart as one of the Section’s premier Professionals.
“Chelso’s performance this year has been nothing short of outstanding,” said NCPGA Tournament Director Shawn McEntee, PGA. “His consistency, sportsmanship, and ability to perform under pressure embody everything the Player of the Year award represents.”
Throughout the season, Barrett showcased his mastery on the course with numerous top-10 finishes, including a -5 (67) to win the 2025 Pro Series #3 event at Castlewood Country Club. His precision off the tee, strategic approach on the greens, and relentless work ethic were key factors in earning this top honor.
“I’m truly honored to be named the NCPGA Player of the Year. Competing in a section with so many talented professionals pushes all of us to play our best, and I have great respect for my fellow competitors,” said Chelso. “We’re fortunate to play on some of the best golf courses in the world, and I want to thank the NCPGA Tournament Committee and Section Professionals for running such outstanding, well-organized events all season long. It’s a privilege to represent CordeValle Golf Club, and I’m grateful for the support of my colleagues and members.”
The NCPGA Player of the Year award recognizes the PGA Professional who demonstrates superior performance in Section events, reflecting both skill and commitment to the game. Barrett joins a prestigious list of past recipients who have distinguished themselves throughout the Northern California golf community.
Chelso Barrett’s 2025 season will be remembered as one of dedication, achievement, and excellence, highlighting his position as one of Northern California’s best PGA Professionals.
Lance Johnson- NCPGA Senior Player of the Year
In recognition of consistent excellence, competitive drive, and steady contributions on the Senior circuit, Stockton’s Lance Johnson has been awarded the 2025 Senior Player of the Year honor by the Northern California PGA.
Throughout the 2025 season, Johnson demonstrated the form, resilience, and performance that set him apart in the Senior Division. Lance played in 16 events throughout 2025 and finished in the Top 5 in every event including carding a 65 (-6) to win the 2025 Senior / Super Senior Pro / Pro #9 at Monarch Bay Golf Club. He was the only player to finish under par that day.
Johnson’s base in Stockton, California places him within reach of the myriad of Central Valley and Bay Area courses that compose a majority of the Northern California PGA Senior circuit. His long tenure and familiarity with the region’s courses and conditions provide a foundation for his competitive success.
As a member of the NCPGA Senior Division, Johnson’s efforts helped highlight the strength and depth of Senior Professionals in the Section. The Senior Player of the Year award recognizes not only tournament results, but also commitment to Section competition and the Professional community
The entire NCPGA section applauds Lance Johnson for his achievement. His dedication to the game, to competitive Senior Professional golf, and to the Northern California region sets an example for many to follow.
